The Gothic games have always been great fun but I've never been able to finish one due to the insane amount of bugs the every Gothic game seems to be full of.

Community Patch 1.73 for Gothic 3 is out.

"The patch can be installed on all g3 versions and is available for all languages. It's only for original G3 game, not for Forsaken Gods.
The CP 1.73 contains all previous patches. So you need only this patch to update Gothic 3."

Those pics made me sit up and take notice.

I always thought Gothic 3 was third person view, and so I never bothered with it (the second reason being the bugs, of course).

After seeing those pics, am I right in now thinking that you can switch to first person view then? If so, I'd go out and get it today.

Yes, you can switch to first person view.

Do you really think they got a community patch to version 1.73 without fixing the biggest problem with the game?

Thanks, gave up after an hour of playing it on release & threw it in a cupboard.

Reinstalled, now downloading CP1.73.

I got this yesterday, installed the 1.73 patch, and now I've hit a snag: The graphics are just incredibly jerky, most noticably in outside areas.

Not to go into technical specifics. my rig (Windows Vista 32) runs everything just fine, including resource hogs such as FSX and GTA IV, Crysis and others.

Any idea why such a relatively old game should cause such problems?
