Liezen, Austria, February 7th 2008; JoWooD Productions, Spellbound Entertainment AG and the Community Mod team release the Patch 1.6 for Gothic 3.

This Update includes a large number of gameplay and data improvements committed by the Community Patch team. These improvements deal with larger and smaller bugs and were made with community wishes particularly in mind.

In addition to these improvements the Spellbound team implemented a new memory system which improves the game’s stability and reduces the memory requirements at the same time, also for Windows Vista. Furthermore the team worked on the “Where is the Guru”-Bugs, which have been nearly eliminated, due to a variety of bug fixes which were made to address causes of game crashes.

It's really good to see the loyal communities that exist within PC gaming. Sometimes great games get rushed out too early and it is left to the fans to sort them out to the way they should be... Examples would be Gothic, Vampire the masquerade, Stalker and X3, although I believe the later was down to the developers.

Gothic 1 (and prob 2, I wasn't really in the mood when I played it) was brilliant for it's time. I couldn't really get into 3 due to it's bugs and awful performance. Hopefully that will have improved immensely with all these patches though...

Performance should be much improved and I understand that most of the bugs should be taken care of. Combat will still be rubbish but should at least be bearable.... All in all probably not quite up to the high standard of gothic 1 and 2 but a decent sequel none the less.

Bugs aside is Gothic 3 worth playing if you have never played Gothic 1 & 2 ?
Does the story follow on from 1 & 2 or should you be able to get right into the story without wondering who the hell who was.

Gothic 3 is deffinately worth a play especially as it can be picked up for around £5 these days. The story shouldn't be too hard to pick up and you will get a good idea of what is going on. It isn't too much of a dialogue driven game to be honest but you may struggle with the relationships of some of the characters.
