Gout!

I've had kidney stones and my research suggested that cherries are beneficial. This may well help for gout too.
I drink Cherry-Active every day. (warning - it's expensive!) but I have not had a single stone since.
You can get it at most health food stores, but don't waste your money on the Holland & Barrett copy.

I thought i had this in the ball of my right foot a few weeks ago. It started off as a dull pain in the morning at work and gradually got to the point of me limping about at work and was in pain with it. Went to the walk in clinic as soon as i finished work and the doc gave me a prescription for an anti-inflamitarry (sp?) pill and some pain killers and told me to see my own GP for a bloodtest for gout. The bloodtest came back negative and the pills done the job, but didn't find out what caused it. That was a few weeks ago now, but just the other day i started getting the dull pain back in the same place, going to have to go back to the docs i think and find out what's wrong with it :(

gout only really affects joints heel pain is more than likely Plantar Fasciitis

now 4hrs after 1st pill ..... diclofenac sodium 3 times a day .... only slightly less painful.

ouch! :(

I suffer too.

Diclofenac/Dicloflex removes the problem, but can take a couple of days.

Allopurinol helps to stop it.

I find the main cause is not drinking enough water. Forget all the rich food nonsense - I dont go anywhere near the apparent causes.

Drink lots, **** lots, you should be fine.

During an attack drink at least 8 pints of water during the day, it clears it up faster.

Been on these for a while but stopped working, got moved on to allipuranol, permanently, but as of today those have stopped working as well.

31 tomorrow, had it for about 5 years, docs said my count is ridiculously high for my age and its mainly through dehydration. Guess the heat over the past few days caught up with me. Cost me another day's pay though and stuck in the house knowing i can't even go take in the sun.

Sammo, my dad and granddad had it as well, very much hereditary. :)

Funny that this should be revived as I just had to take the entirety of last week off work with the worst attack I've ever had. Couldn't even move more than a few feet before the pain was overwhelming, and couldn't sleep because of the constant throbbing.

Cleared up enough for me to get to the doctors and sort out allopurinol. Started taking that, which made it flare up again for the next few days but it's retreating hastily now. Just hope the medication does the trick and helps keep it at bay!

Ah that is so painful. I am on 400mg a day of Allopurinol to help prevent it recurring. It was a nightmare when I had it a few years ago so I feel your pain. I was actually in Cape Town at the time of a major attack and had to go to their A&E department I was in so much pain. I could barely walk let alone concentrate on anything. But touch wood, I haven't had another attack since. Although I do sometimes suffer a sort of 'hot throbbing toe' which sounds a bit kinky, but really it isn't..

Indeed. My new doctor gave me colchicine for the last attack. I was also concerned when I read up on it. And it gives you bad guts.

Jesus, surprised the pharmacist handed it out. Colchicine is an old cancer treatment as it stops all cells performing mitosis as it arrests the cell in metaphase.

Allopurinol actually breaks down the crystals that build up around joints, whilst diclofenac is a strong NSAID (similar to ibuprofen) which only stops inflammation caused by the crystals being there. It doesn't clear them though, instead the body does that instead.

3rd day of the worst attack I've had so far, and in 5 years I've had about 20.

Can't walk, can't sleep, feel drained and now I think I'm about to get man flu lol, bloody typical.

Promised little man I'd be at his school sports day tomorrow, haven't been able to do anything but hop for 3 days and now my opposite knee is killing. Great fun.

Anyone took allipuranol and it not work? What is the next step?
