Government drops website blocking

Do you actually think it's a problem for him to do that though? Surely you're not going to argue that it's wrong and he shouldn't have done it, are you?

But it is wrong  The copyright of the film states it is wrong, he is breaking law doing it.

Can't get much more wrong than that.

.

So that is OK is it?

Theft is punished by the law. People making pornography is more than likely legal and see my above post on 'hacking'

So in general yes it is mostly ok and when it isn't it is punishable by the law. That applies to file sharing (nee copyright infringement) it needs to be dealt with by the law not by lobby groups like the BPA.

I think that may bring the argument full circle.

Uploading it is where it gets illegal. There is absolutely no come-back or punishment of any kind for simply downloading movies.

If you believe it's illegal, what's the point of it being illegal if nothing is done about it?

He made an attempt to legally watch a film, which failed (I assume through no fault of his own) so he downloaded it... causing zero harm to anyone or anything.

Problem? Nobody would have known any different had he not have told you.
!

The problem is copyright infringement, which is illegal.

It is illegal, as pointed out.

Cease and desist orders are sent to downloaders all the time.
