Hello all.

I currently require the help of the OCUK pitchfork mob.

I am currently researching about the ethical conduct of MPs (for example) and would very much appreciate if people could post any memorable 'scandals' involving money, recent or past.

This is, undoubtedly, a 'homework' thread since it is to provide subject matter for an essay I will be subsequently writing. However, as I'm sure you will appreciate, a collective mind is infinately superior than one when it comes to remembering issues that have been in the spotlight of the media. The 'cash for honours' scandal is an obvious example.

I would very much appreciate it if anyone would be kind enough to point me in the direction of any such fiasco.

Thank you for your time :)

Peter Mandelson must surely take a starring role in any essay on scandals and sleaze - cf his flat purchase if nothing else but I'd definitely be looking that the Hinduja Brothers link too.

Crazy Uncle Mo Al-Fayed and the cash for questions scandal would fit in nicely.

There are plenty more but those spring to mind most readily.

Any number of MP's expenses claims, the most recent being the porn one...

also, do your own homework, lazy friggin lawyers :p

Derek Conway cash for his sons.

Ron Davies, Clapham Common.

Mark Oaten, rent boys.

Neil Hamilton, cash for questions.

Yes, I am able to research myself, fear not. I started this thread as someone who is older than me might recall something which I cannot. Thank you, semi-pro waster and simulatorman :)

Dr David Kelly. Found dead 2 days after facing MPs about Iraq's weapon capabilities. Not that I'm suggesting anything, of course.

Central government:

Cash for questions
Cash for peerages
Aitken and Archer lying at libel trials and being jailed (never though Archer was guilty myself, mind)
WMD lies
MPs constantly being outed and others shamed for having extra-marital affairs and the old orange in the mouth MP when Major was preaching back to basics to us all.

And the ultimate corruption:

Margaret Thatcher / Mark Thatcher - Al Yamamah Arms deal (over £10m to wee Mark as a middleman)

Local:

Dame Shirley Porter (The one that moved people and sold council homes to Tory voters in Westminster)
