It's a distraction, this isn't on anyone's list of priorities.
Indeed, but after the announcement of the winter fuel allowance being cut for 10M pensioners and now this, one has to wonder who’s advising him on these policies, when there’s far far bigger issues to deal with.
He clearly doesn’t care one jot about who he’s upsetting.

Sounds a bit like what they do in Japan which actually works quite well and puts some responsibility on the employer to look out for their employees health and well-being.
Yup, but imagine the trouble that could be caused by an employer suggesting to an employee that they’re too porky or that their lifestyle isn’t up to scratch.
It’s an absolute minefield.
Still it’d keep HR busy.

Indeed, it’s especially galling when the kids of these land whales resemble beach balls with legs.
At what point do the parents start to notice that ramming junk food down their kids throats maybe isn’t the greatest of ideas? Or maybe they’re just too dumb to care.

Not really.

I've worked at a few places with this, its called occupational health, and as health professionals they will give you exactly the same advice a doctor would.

In fact if you work somewhere where they have it available most people see it as a massive positive.
Same here, although it turned out they were finding all kinds of problems that didn’t exist so they could refer us for further check ups at great expense to the company.
It got so bad that a few of us were refused to go back into the workshop until we’d had the check ups done, and it turned out this was happening across the whole network of dealerships.
They were sacked off and a new company was bought in, and surprise surprise no one after further checks were found out to have these problems.

Kinda amusing how people are complaining about a whiff of cigarette smoke whilst they’re sat outside pickling their livers with alcohol.
Make it make sense.

That was slightly tongue in cheek btw.

i) The toxins are airborne. The idea that an arbitrary line in the air will stop them is nonsense.
ii) Employees will be forced to work in the contaminated area.
iii) Employees will be forced to clean up the toxic waste left in the contaminated area.
What an absolute load of drivel.
My good god, did you even read that before posting it?
I kinda get what you're saying, but to word it like you have is just utterly laughable and completely ridiculous.

It was the way the argument was presented and words used that imo are (as previously said) sensationalist, and frankly way way OTT, and daft.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but no one is saying that smoking is good for you or others around you, and after 30+ years of 20 odd a day, trust me I know the harm it does.
Maybe it's just me, but making a valid point needn't come accross as such fire and brimstone, there are better ways to do it.
It could be argued that some have had enough of that over the last few years.

Some people just won't be happy until we're as miserable and as soulless as they are (that wasn't a dig at anyone on here btw).
If they can't have any sort of enjoyment, then nobody can.
With all that's happened over the last few years, I'd say just leave us the **** alone and let us find enjoyment where we can find it.
Life is too short to have every aspect of our lives watched over and controlled by control freaks and drama queens.

Indeed.
There was a similar situation where I used to work where one employee kept getting a whiff of cig smoke from the smoking area about 10 meters away from the workshop.
He went to the management making out his health was being affected and was concerned about (insert nonsense claims).
He was also a tech who didn't use an exhaust extractor fan whilst the rest of us did, so it was clear he was just moaning for the sake of it (he was a cyclist).
Amazingly the company who were health and saftey mad (they tried to stop us drinking tea/coffee in the workshop incase some chemicals etc got in our drinks) completely ignored his claims and did nothing at all about it.
Fwiw, the company soon dropped the rule of no cups in the workshop when we all downed tools if we couldn't stay hydrated when working (it's incredible what'll happen when a companies profit is threatened).
