Gparted live CD- making a new partition

Hey, trying to install Win 7 onto a new partition. When going through the installation it asked me where i wanted to install it. Saw my hard drive, but i already have Win XP on there. Can i create a new partition from there, or would i be better off using the live CD?

Also, if i did create a new partition using the Live CD would i lose all the data that is currently on the hard drive?

if there might be a possiblity that the hard drive will loose data then either back up Data etc to an external or another internal hard drive Or use acronis to make a complete image off the drive before going ahead with gparted live.

The only thing i would worry about losing if anything did go wrong is games as that is all i have on at the moment due to a new build. If something did go wrong would i have to buy another key for all my games like COD4 and Half Life?

Have you got the keys, can you not write them down?

u can install the games as many times as you have the patience to reinstall, I have the cod waw and all the patches at had ready to install.
