GPS Tagging photos

Please post here how you get on with it, I would be interested to know :)

Sure, I've asked the guys I'm going with if they want me to order them one each as well at the same time, if this does everything MS says it does then we should be sorted!

How long does the battery typically last Mint?

I can't say for sure but I've done a day out with it, you may find the battery life is affected in low temperatures. It depends how serious your trip is, if you're going proper trekking all day in -20 conditions you may want a more robust GPS unit, anything that pumps out a GPX is good (most units). Check out Garmin, their units are built to be abused and some take AA batteries so you can swap them over if you're half way up a mountain in a tent. :)

I chose the Holux as it's very small, lightweight and basic logger for fair weather conditions. I don't know how well it would track if it's in a pocket and it would probably give you some erratic results in a padded jacket.

If you have the cash and space for something like this, it may even help your adventures (https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=145&pID=87771).

I had a Garmin unit just like this one (https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=145&pID=8705) years ago although it was called a GPS 60csx (I think that was the model name). I ended up selling it on eBay, you might pick one up for like £40 and it's a proper hardcore unit but it's heavier and bulkier etc.

If I were you I'd probably take my chances on the Holux though (you mentioned small and lightweight and Garmins aren't) and just keep an eye on it to make sure it's still working when the temps really drop, maybe seal up the cracks with super glue and tape over the on/off switch and usb port with electrical tape or something to stop any melting snow.

Ah we won't be roughing it, come on dude you've met me...do I look like the type? :p

Going out for a day, heading back to freshen up, eat and head back out at night though is definitely going to happen so can charge then :)

Have we met?? :o

In that case, since it sounds like you're going to be holidaying in a really cold place I'd say the Holux is probs going to be the best choice! Plus you could take it on your nights out and then in the morning when you have no memory, you could look at the tracks on Google Earth to see all the places you went to. :D

Ah my bad! I'm thinking of Malt Vinegar! Sorry, long day :o

Although thinking about it...that would cost me a fortune in data fees

Back to a camera accessory I think!

GPS logging won't cost you anything, you can do it with your data connection turned off, it just takes a little longer to lock a signal when you start the app.

Good point.

Still, I'm going to order this logger...seems like just the ticket! :)
