Ive previously posted about wanting a quiet graphics upgrade to my existing rig that getting on for 2years old:
- Q6600 (go stepping)
- ASUS P5KC iP35 motherboard
- 4GB Ram
- Antec TruePower Trio 650W PSU
- 8800GT (Zalaman fan edition)
- CoolerMaster cosmos case
- 22" samsung panel LCD
I play a selection of games (DOW2, DragonAge, Crysis mostly at the moment) at 1680x1050 resolution and then as much AA as I can. I want to continue running latest games at a pretty standard for another 18m - 2 years, at which point I'll probably do a full upgrade of CPU, motherboard, etc. My preference was for a quiet GPU, so I was going to wait for the 5850 vapox-X to come out & then benefit from DX11.
HOWEVER...
My graphics card budget is £150, but I would stretch to around the £200 mark if there was a good reason. Now having a look a month or so later, I find that 5850's are out of my extended price range (even if you CAN get hold of one!) and thats not even the vapors.
But, I have now seen the 5770's available at a great price & started to wonder if this is a better weapon of choice for me, considering my standard resolution and other kit??? (and would it be man enough for another 18months?).
Also, anyone know if my MB will crossfire? (I know it technically supports it, but not sure if Ive got more than one big PCI-e port). If it would, then I guess a 5770 now, plus another in 8months would be ideal, but I think probably not.
OR, should I just sit in the queue for 5850's for another few months to see if they drop in price?
Many Thanks
Dan
