hi guys, looking to upgrade my gpu, mainly so i can get back into VR. I had it successfully working via my 1050ti but then after an update it became unplayable.

I would like to upgrade my monitor too, getting a few headaches so would like to try a higher refresh rate to see if it helps.

I don't really want to spend more than £300-£400 on each (unless its worth it of course)

My head is spinning after researching my options so looking for some personal opinions. i very nearly pulled the trigger on the vega 64 but then i started comparing against the 56 and 1660ti so now not so sure which would be right for me.

my current PC specs are

asus prime z270-a
i5 7400
1050ti
16gb ram
ssd 970 evo
windows 10

Welcome to the forum.

Which monitor do you currently have (TN, VA or IPS) and assume it's 60Hz?

What power supply do you have (especially important for Vega cards)? Brand and model please, i.e. not just "500w".

Case would be good to know as well as some GPUs are quite long.

Lowering brightness can help with dry eyes, headaches. But nausea is usually caused by low refresh rate or low fps.

thanks for the welcome

monitor is a benq gl2760h, im open to dropping to a 24" if i have too

i have a evga 650gq psu and my case is a game max falcon atx mid tower.

i will need another case to put my old parts in for one of the kids when i have completed upgrades so will be looking to get myself a new case too in the not to distant.

That PSU is good.

There are good discounts on AMD Vega cards.

£400 would actually give 144hz capable 32" vas.

That wouldn't make pixels much smaller than in your current monitor.
In 27" size 2560x1440 means smaller pixels

Having FreeSync would be important for gaming because it allows monitor so change its refresh rate based on fps comnig from graphics cards and avoids problems of no Vsync/traditional Vsync.

I'd also look into the modern TN panels Dell S2719DGF & Dell S2716DG. Former is AMD Freesync, latter Nvidia Gsync.

I understand both have promo codes out there. OcUK have a nice discount already on the DGF. Whereas for the DG in particular can look at Dell website + promo codes/first time discount.

A DG with a Zotac RTX 2070 Amp Edition would come close to £800 total after the discounts. A DGF with a Vega 64 Sapphire Nitro+ could be obtained for considerably less*. Can always pair the DGF with an Nvidia card if needed, however Dell does not officially support Freesync with Nvidia on that monitor and you could run into issues here and there, despite people using Freesync with their Nvidia card and reporting no, or few, issues. If you have a look at this thread it's mostly positive: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/dell-s2719dgf-owners-thread.18841714/page-18

That i5-7400 might bottleneck these GPUs in some games and situations now. Could keep your eye out for a good deal on an i7-6700 or i7-7700 to extend the life of that system. Don't pay over £100, not worth even that now.

AMD may announce new GPUs next week. And Nvidia has teased something.

* The Vega 64 Nitro+ is sometimes on offer for £349.99. Wait for that price.
