So i'm looking at getting a 1080 Ti at the end of the month once the 2080 Ti has been released with reviews and benchmarks available. The question is which 1080 Ti?

So i've got a Gigabyte X370 K7 motherboard so i thought i'd keep it in the family and go with the Aorus branded cards. There are two however, the standard edition at £630 and the Extreme Edition at £900.

Now i've been watching the usual reviewers on YouTube and the consensus to me seems to be that buying the OC cards is a waste of money. You should just use nVidia GPU Boost.

With the price difference between the two cards of £270 this matters.

So can i just get the lower end card and use GPU boost to get very close to the £900 Extreme edition card? Because paying an extra £270 for 4% more performance would be madness.

The Exreme version is just clocked higher out the box I believe. Most 1080ti’s will boost to the same levels if thermals allow it. Just get the £630 as you won’t notice any difference, keep it it cool and let the boost do its job.

You have answered your own question in the last sentence. The Aorus 1080TI is on special at the moment and is a right bargain, it might be sold out by the end of the month. My aorus 1080ti overclocks past the Xtremes overclocked settings anyway so I would say just save £270 and get the normal version

exactly, just set your own fan curve rather than leaving it on auto. Mine wont go over 63 degrees on my custom curve but hits 71 on auto
