GPU Clock on 5870

I could use some info about my 5870 graphics card. After I went back to a single monitor from using Eyefinity my clock readings are srewed up. The GPU Clock now reads 157MHz and Memory Clock sits at 300MHz. I asked AMD and was told that is a normal reading when the card is not in use. When running Assassins Creed 2 the game is not effected so I'm good with that. But it never read that low before and to check this I put in my slightly older a perfect running 4890 card and it too shows much lower clock reading which it never did before. So am I ok here or is there a need for concern. At first I thought maybe the card was going out on me or my board was going. Nothing seems wrong as far as I can tell. Anyone else see this happening with their system? Also does anyone know if the new 480 card does the Eyefinity bit? I haven't seen a good photo of the back of the card yet.

Thanks

That is the normal 2D clock speeds for the HD 5000 range - 157 / 300.

It causes the card to only use around 25w of power when idle, instead of consuming around 150w.

This is normal for desktop use as driver updates often modify factors affecting heat and noise output of the graphics card. Frequency and fan speeds are the main ones. HD4890's were adjusted several times since its release, for example. In fact, there is normally more than one performance profile to fit a particular load on the GPU, desktop mode being the least demanding one. Don't worry about it. If you want experimental proof of this, leave the CCC Overdrive panel open and run a benchmark, demo or a game in a windowed mode side-by-side. You will see the clocks ramp up in accordance with the amount of drawing work to be done. :)

As for 480, it does support monitor spanning alike to Eyefinity mode, but not on a single card. You will need two or more 480s in SLI to connect more than two monitors at present. It may be addressed later its life cycle, though.

Thanks, I needed the back up info. I was sweating a bit as there is no more money in the cookie jar for anymore hardware for now.
