Hey guys using HWMonitor

My CPU Core 0 Utilization is around 32-40% and gpu 99%

specs are

i7 920 oc 3.6ghz (c0/c1) and GTX 680.

If I buy a GTX 970 G1 to replace the 680 will I have any issues with bottleneck?

I have a 4770k at 4.5 and can see cpu go to 50% especially with vsync off. So as we have the same number of threads I would think the CPU has more to give in that game. You are maxing out your GFX card so a 970 should give you better FPS I would imagine you will still be GPU limited in the witcher 3 if anything.

What frame rate are you getting also as that can have some affect.

I run the game at medium/high just at around 43 frames to 48 in some areas. If I set to ultra with hairworks on its 24 off its around 29/30.

Cpu and GPU usage is the same.

I do have the budget of around 3000 that I been holding back for Skylake but been hearing don't bother til next year with cpu upgrade. So reason why I been checking out the GTX 970 G1 if it would give me a nice upgrade over the 680 in frames til I upgrade next year for pascal card and cpu.

[PS]

If I lower the gpu settings it does increase frame rates so that means the gpu is not up to it?

Found it on reddit, and it made a difference for me, and some. You could give it a try and see if it helps.
As always make a copy/backup of the file before changing anything.

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\config\base\gc.ini
Open that file
"; Number of threads the GC should be running on
NumThreads = 1"
Change 1 to 4
Save the file.

It's a config file for the asset streaming system of the game, it's set to only run on 1 CPU thread by default.

basically yes a 970 would give you a good boost:)

i found this works well with random asset poping but didnt really increase my framerate :)

Tried the settings not much change did forgot to say I run on 1920 x 1080 no plan to upgrade to 1440p until next year when I get new monitors / gsync

As for the 970 I only plan to use it until pascal comes out that is when new cpu change for me and the whole lot.

Is it good investment?

i think it will help your frame rate in majority of games. I would imagine your should get 60fps in the witcher with a few tweaks.

Your CPU is most likely not bottlenecking your GPU by a lot, since the i7 920 is still a quite capable CPU. I reckon you'll definitely benefit from switching to a GTX 970.

That's telling you the gpu is running flat out and it cant give you any more. the cpu is just ticking over.

a 970 will still be a bottleneck, but you'll be seeing 50-60fps with everything on high.

Thanks will take a look at that card. For SSD do I just plug it into a SATA 2 Socket and what would I change in the bios? atm I set it to RAID for the 2 hard drives. Would a 120 GB for os do fine?

I would recommend an r9 390 personally. Faster than a 970, even moreso when you crank up the res and around the same price.

Even Jay, a self spoken nvidia fan says the 970 can't compete.

EDIT: Just saw the last post, bit too late advise, oh well, enjoy your card.

Well I am not that bothered about the futureproofing 2 years+ as I plan to change my whole system and go GPU SLI when pascal comes out only bought the 970 to last me til then.

And play Star Wars Battlefront and witcher 3 at better frames then I am now using 1920 x 1080 resolution not 1440p or higher.

I am not a AMD fan as have issues with them in the past.
