I'm stuck on what to upgrade.

I currently have an i7 920 @ 3.5ghz and have been looking at upgrading to a 6700k or should I invest in replacing my r9 280x with a evga 980 Ti sc.

At the moment the games I play are CS:GO and LoL. Will most likely be playing the Legion WoW expansion too, not sure how gpu intensive that would be though.

I also plan on switching to a 1440p monitor sometime next year. Not sure about 1440p 60hz or 1440 144hz but i'm not worried about that atm.

upgrade to a 980ti would give you a more noticeable difference. Depends on your budget but is it not possible to upgrade your CPU and squeeze in a lesser GPU like a 970 / 390 ?

LOL and CS should be well into the 100s of FPS as it is. Wow would see some small improvements in busy town areas/raids.

If these three are the only/main games you play, don't upgrade your GPU.

Apart from CS the other games don't really benefit from 144hz. I reckon you are better going with a 21 by 9 monitor for these games as the extra screen space makes a significant difference.

I just upgrade my LOL rig by getting a 21:9 monitor. Best decision ever, can see a gank coming in from a mile away. If you want the extra resolution, then i would recommend going for a freesync 3440 by 1440p monitor if you can find one.

Wouldn't I have problems running a 3440x1440p wide screen with a R9 280x? That sounds like it will kill my FPS.

I know what you mean having a wide resolution playing league, I tried eyefinity with my monitor and tv although it was really weird due to different screen size you could see so much more! Definitely something i'd look into for a future upgrade.

I've been reading some random information and have found out Pascal maybe released early/mid 2016. If that is so would it be wise to invest in a 980 Ti right now?

The prices will drop for 980 and Pascal will be around £600~ area, right?

With around £800 budget what would be the best option for me now? (Don't really want to spend £800 on a monitor though)

CPU/GPU/Monitor? (My current monitor is some random £100-150 Samsung 1080p S24A350H)

Normally i say you would run into issues at high resolutions but the games you play dont require a significant amount of GPU power. A lower 21:9 resolution is 2560 by 1080p. The lg 29um67 is cheap, has freesync and is at that resolution. Your 280x would have no problem pumping out the fps for 2560,1080p and iv ery much doubt it would struggle with 3440 too. I will check my fps on my 290x when i get home but tbh last i switched Vsync off, my 290x was rocking well into the 2/300s for lol and i imagine CS:go would also be in the hundreds.

Yh for the two games you play your gpu is almost overkill anyway just get a good monitor if you haven't got one and wait till pascal/amd new gpus next year.
