GPU decisions

Hi folks, I'm building a new machine for the first time in about 12 years and I'm a bit unsure about what to do in terms of GPU, do I hold out and wait for stock of the new generation of GPU to become more readily available (either RX 6800xt or RTX 3070) or should I just go ahead and buy something from the previous generation (RX 5700xt or RTX 2070/2080).
What I already have gathered up is:

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600XT
Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 Gaming X
RAM: Team Group 8Pack RIPPED Edition 16GB 3600mhz CL14
Storage: WD BLUE SN550 1TB NVME M.2
PSU: SUPER FLOWER LEADEX III ARGB 750W
Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow

Any advice would be really appreciated

New generation is much better value so if you can wait, wait.

Stock on older models has also started drying up, but a discounted 5700XT or 2070 would definitely hold you over for a while, even at 1440p.

I'd wait. Graphics cards are like rocking horse poo at the moment. Nearly 200 quid for a 1650 super if you can even find one in stock

Grab an el-cheapo GPU for now something sub £100 if you can find it, wait for availability - 3060ti and 6700 are about to drop.

I got my 5700xt for £330 early 2020, good luck finding one at that price now. (a 5700xt is worth about 250 top given new gen)

That board is a bit rubbish :( It will be fine with a 3600X but you could have gotten a board with a stronger VRM for the same/less money.

Oh and welcome to the forum :)

I have a hd 7950 you can borrow!!

Seriously though! Check eBay etc etc for a card to tide you over. Buying new at the moment is just adding to the problem

The board is fine, don't be a dick.

Sorry ?

Yes it will handle a 3600X but there are better options for £150 as I already mentioned

The X570 Tomahawk runs 30C+ cooler with an overclocked 3900X. The B550 version has pretty much the same VRM and it costs less money than the X570 Gaming X.

I'm aware that I could have got a better board for the money but it (and a few other parts) are an early Christmas present from the other half who doesn't know much about computers to shut me up about wanting a new machine (I have been talking about it for years). So to be honest I'm just happy I got an AM4 motherboard at all :D
