gpu for 1440p?

At stock or mild OC. Neither the 7970's or the 680s will give you 60fps locked in BF3/Ultra/64 Player/1440p Caspian or Gulf of Oman, just no way!

Maybe not on 64man, but I only play 32, 64man would create more of a cpu bottleneck than a gpu.

Was playing on Caspian 32 player conquest last night and it never drops below the vsync of 60, the 680's are really amazing and the scaling when you are running at 1440 res is fantastic.

In games like Arkham City and The Witcher 2, I've gone from around 45fps on a single 680 at 1440 to locked to 60fps even with 4xmsaa on with sli.

Everyones different.

My point is for BF3, to maxx the settings at stock using 2x7970 on two of the most popular maps, Gulf and Caspian, you will see the frame rate counter dip into the 40's and 50s. For the 680 at stock, you can add up to 10% on that number.

If you drop the settings in either player count or graphics settings, the frame-rate will obviously go back up.

Here is a screenshot of me standing still in 64 Player Gulf Of Oman. With little action going on - 45fps, both GPU utilisation 90%+

I can tell you now the actual experience is poorer than the numbers suggest.

And here is a fraps graph, unfortunatley when I die the FPS shoots up to 80fps which skews the results but you get the idea, a lot of the time you are sub 50fps, the frame rate draw times shoot up and it feels very sluggish.

Next to the 1080p/120hz setup on two cards at stock, there is no comparison, the 120hz setup feels like cheating.

Here is skyrim. Not scientific - i will leave that to Hardocp etc.

Ultra settings. 2 x 7970 at stock + 10-15% for a 680.

35-120fps. I believe at 120fps it hits the engine frame-rate limiter.

Beginning of the game, not doing much - 40fps

And the fraps result taken from the 10minute intro - 35fps averaged minimum. 71fps overall average.

I'm gonna have to run some tests tonight to compare, but you seem to get some pretty heavy framerate drops

The Witcher 2 at Ultra with Ubersampling and Vsync off.

Unplayable with 2 cards, passable with 3 but I still would not play it at Ultra even with 3 cards.

2 x 7970 at stock you will see the FPS counter stuck at 15fps. Check the dips taken from the first battle.

GPU usage 90-100% on the first card, around 50%-70% on the second.

and the fraps recording.

There is something massivly wrong with your setup then dude.

With a 680, everything on ultra, apart from ubersambling off, vsync on, no AA, I got around 45fps.

With 680 sli I'm locked at 60 even when I apply 4xmsaa. Never budges, even when there is a lot of combat on screen.

Make sure you are running the Enhanced edition of the game and just reset it to Ultra. Switch off Uber and Vsync.

Don't forget that Ultra switches on AA by default, so that is probably why your frame rates are flying.

Here are the settings.

I'll give it a go when I get home and post the results, but pretty sure I'm using ultra already. I did try with ubersambling on but it bought it down to about 35fps :|

There is also a toggle box for standard MSAA, just make sure thats set as per the shot.

Ubersampling is a joke tbh but fun for killing your rig.

What does it do and can you tell a difference with it on?
According to the image quality comparisons I've seen it makes textures slightly more blurry, which seems counter-productive. I'm sure it's not that simple but I haven't seen any reason to enable when the performance hit is so dramatic, even on top end systems. It's like DOF for Metro 2033 - even with two 680s it can't manage 60fps at 2560x1600 according to the reviews I've seen.

I tried this last night, selected ultra, turned off uber sync, left everything else on.

Booted up the Arena, still at 60fps.... went down to maybe 55fps when it got really heavy, but was pretty much flickering around the vsync lock.

You really must have something wrong dude :/ other than that or the 680's in sli out perform 3x7970 which is obviously not true.

Need more data really, from others.

My stats were taken from the first battle, the frame rate dies as soon as you leave the seige tower for the castle, with a dozen enemy on screen. The opening chapter in the camp is fine.

Ok dude did a couple of small fraps benchmarks, only about 30 seconds each, but this was during the first section where it is recounting the fight on the castle, the large crossbow thing etc:

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
2420, 40903, 48, 63, 59.164

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
4802, 80434, 36, 64, 59.701

This is with ultra settings, AA on obviously, vsync on and ubersampling off, 2560x1440.

Nice one. Switch the vsync off mate and re-run as it will skew the numbers. Make sure you record the parts where the king converses on the castle wall (the fire archers have taken up a great position - the *******s) after the first melee fight as my frame rate plummets to sub 20fps during that bit.

I am sticking to stock for the testing as it pollutes the numbers :>

6 cores at 3.2GHZ should be plenty.
