Gpu for physx

And what CPU do you have?

A decent AMD card coupled with a decent processor should allow you to run PhysX on Medium pretty comfortably.

There's also a mod going round apparently which directs the PhysX processing to the card rather than the CPU for AMD cards as well. Don't know anything about it though other than it's there.

GPu is a gb 580 soc 960 MHz core

CPU is 4ghz i7 920

Borderlands 2 doesn't run great for me. That's with physx off.

As low as 30 odd fps coupled with 30 odd % GPu usage in some instances.

Should a 580 be enough for 60 fps or more with physx on medium?

30% GPU usage sounds like CPU bottlenecking to me as my girlfriend has a 580 and runs BL2 at 60fps easily at max settings, even seen it go up to a constant 180 fps in certain areas but she does have the newer ivybridge @ 4.60GHZ

*EDIT* before you buy anything try uninstalling your GPU drivers then running driver sweeper and installing the latest drivers, make sure you have all up to date drivers on everything, the 920 is still a great CPU and shouldnt be bottlenecking you this much also check to see if you have any programs running in the background that arent actually needed.

Does seem that's the case but find it difficult to believe a i7 920 @ 4ghz is a bottleneck in borderlands...

****es bf3 easy

Ye I've reinstalled my drivers using driver fusion to remove old ones. No difference.

Silly question but you do have physx set to your gpu in the nvidia control panel right ? i did this mistake on my gf's rig when playing Batman Arkham Asylum and BL2 and wondered when it was running like a dog with physx at max, turned it to GPU and ran silky smooth, other than that i aint got a clue sorry bud :(

I haven't got physx enabled at all
Performance is inconsistent as it is ,so....

For Borderlands 2 you probably want atleast a 200 series nVidia card - it makes a bit of use of fluid dynamics which will choke a 8x00/9x00 card.
