Ok

I have purchased 2 HIS 7950s (Boost Versions).

I have done a fresh install of Win 8 so I know its not nvidia driver related.

These cards have duel bios. I flash the flashable bios as in http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...php?t=18539905.

Both card would not run on that bios in xfire. Stock bios that worked. So I started to test each card. Both failled in the top slot in each bios position. Both worked in the middle slot, again both Bios Positions.

So I thought it was the top slot that had failled.

So I removed all AMD stuff, in driver fusion to clean the drivers out.

I plugged my GTX 670 back in sorted the drivers and it ran 2 runs of Heaven.

So Im confused, it cant be the board as it runs my GTX 670. It cant be the 7950s as they both run Heaven in the middle slot.

So any advice. I have a few days to return the 7950s to OcUK under DSR.

My Board is Gigabyte Z77X-UP5 TH. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...php?t=18433746
PSU 750 OCZ (ran GTX 670s in SLI).

RAM is Sammy green passed memtest fine.

Im lost what to do.

Hopefully someone in here who may recognise this issue can step in, but as its moving down the page i thought i would step in and suggest you update the BIOS on the Motherboard if you already haven't.

some Gigabyte Motherboards need a BIOS update before running AMD GPU's.

I was running F12j bios which is the latest, I flashed it to a modded version from this site. http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/

Now one thing I dont understand is that xfire did work the first time I flashed the modded bios.

I just lost, and fed up I have spent a week so far trying to get this sorted. And am just at the end of my wick.

I dont have any way to test the cards on another system, so cant do that. And the board is Xfire cert.

What you haven't told us, is if you run both the cards in CF with they stock BIOS.

Because right now, I do not see how you can return something under DSR, when you fiddle with it, knowingly that you take the hit for any damage you do (and compatibility issues) by changing their BIOS.

And also gived you a warning!

***Please check your other Bios is intact and working first***
***Dont forget to make a backup of your original BIOS(use GPU-Z)***
***Please only attempt if you know the risk of what you're doing, and if you can recover from a bad BIOS flash if something goes wrong...***

Edit, does he have a point? ^^^^ something with you editing the BIOS?

Maybe its a problem with the PCIe slot thats causing issues with the AMD card but not Nvidia?.

Check it for dirt, bent broken pins?

Ok I have flash the normal F12j Bios. Reflash the 7950 with stock bios I saved.

These cards have a bios switch a protected and a flashable bios.

Bent pins hmmmmm would they get bent would all nvidia and AMD cards need all the pins intact to work.

Right drivers insalled lets see what happens.

Ok

All running at stock. Hmm could it have been the modded bios. I have F12j flashed before I had the cards.

Ok Bed time, more testing tomorrow.

Do the cards work ok on the original stock bios of 1.25v? I thought you said they did. If they do you should keep using that until Kaboom has look at your stock bios image. I asked him to check if its different from our cards in anyway as that could explain the problems you've been having.

However he might not get back to me within two days so you might be better offf DSR'ing and adding another 670 instead.

You're the only one that has had problems im afraid. 99% of customers in the Ice-Q thread had no problems so this looks like a rare case.

I flashed them back to stock Bios I saved from GPU-Z.

I think its the Top slot that they dont like. A question about the monitor cable, which card should it be plugged in to (top or bottom).

Hmm also wonder if a 7990 would be better 1 card and all (I know it xfire but in 1 card).

Edit

Could it be the Motherboard that is faulty.
