Gpu in my price range

If you are only keeping the card too the end of the year it will not matter to much, but the longer you keep the card, the gap between the 970 and 390 will grow, not just because of dx12 but Amd will get more out of their cards as time goes on.

Considering the AMD 390/x is based on a 2 year old 290/x I doubt they're gonna get anything else out of their GPU than they already have.

It may or may not have an additional overall advantage when DX12 games become the norm though.

yes +1. gtx 970 when overclocked will give you better performance in most situations, whatever the resolution.

Not true, Yea once the 970 is over clocked it will give more performance over a 390 stock but overclock the 390 then once again it matches or beats the 970.

Jaytwo cents who i always thought Favorited nVidia more because his main rigs always had nVidia cards, reviewed MSI 390 vs EVGA SSC 970

MSI 390 Gaming Edition 290 quid

EVGA SSC 970 - 300 quid

Here's the review Jaytwocents Review

Only thing i would comment on is 390 gets the Hitman game and the 970 gets division so depending which is more to your taste may throw the decision. IMO id prefer division from the two games. But in the review the 390 vs 970 stock for stock the 390 came on top and when both cards were overclocked the 390 came out on top most of the time or matched 970. The 390 does better at increased resolutions anyway. Everyone knows that.
