Dear all, I would like to get a new GPU in the price range mentioned above.
So far I have

Motherboard
CPU Type QuadCore Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2400 MHz (9 x 267)
Motherboard Name Asus P5QL Pro (3 PCI, 2 PCI-E x1, 1 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR2 DIMM, Audio, Gigabit LAN)
Motherboard Chipset Intel Eaglelake P43
System Memory 4096 MB (DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM)
DIMM2: Kingston 2G-UDIMM 2 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (5-5-5-18 @ 400 MHz) (4-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz) (3-3-3-9 @ 200 MHz)
DIMM4: Kingston 2G-UDIMM 2 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (5-5-5-18 @ 400 MHz) (4-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz) (3-3-3-9 @ 200 MHz)
BIOS Type AMI (10/31/08)
Communication Port Communications Port (COM1)

Display
Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (512 MB)

Power supply
Modecom Feel III 350ATX 12cm FAN PFC bulk

And both CPU and GPU are not mine and not paid for and as far as I know GPU is dragging my performance down, so why pay for it, if I can still get a little bit better for a little bit extra.

Would I be able to equate both CPU and GPU performances by getting new GPU for an extra £20-30 or otherwise, which one would you recommend?

I haven't heard of that power supply brand before. If it's a budget brand, then I would strongly recommend you replace it with a good quality one (very important).

Secondly, get the cpu overclocked; it should manage at least 3ghz. Keep an eye on the temps with a program such as core temp.

If you upgrade the gpu too far ahead, then the cpu will become the bottleneck. However, with a half decent overclock on the cpu, something like a 7770 / 650ti should give a very nice boost in performance indeed.

Yeah, Power Supply will be changed if new GPU will be installed, and I will get this one (if it will be in stock soon)

And I've been thinking something like this for GPU, which is a bit more affordable.

I wouldnt get the 650. Its slower than the 550 TI which is beaten by the 7770. 7770's can be had for around £90.

Sorry, did you mean it is slower than 650ti?

So what you meant, to be clear, sorry again if being rude: 650 < 650 ti < 7770?

I checked both 7770 and 650 ti out on the benchmark website:

GeForce GTX 650 Ti

Radeon HD 7770

Obviously these arent overclocked and are not to be completely trusted, I guess.

Id get a new GPU, i think the CPU should be ok with a 7850/660

That old GPU is not good for this day and age.

Sorry for beaing misleading, what I meant was, if I will keep my CPU (shall I overclock it or not) and will get 650 GPU, which I linked earlier are they both going to be in the same performance class, or either of them will become, as arc@css said, a bottleneck.

I really think the 650 won't be good enough for gaming. Id rather risk going for a second hand 460/470/480. You just missed out in some refurbs :(.

The cpu will be fine with the card though.

I'd wait and save a little more for a 7850 if possible with that cpu. Don't think a 650 would be quite worth it for gaming.

I was planning to get this one few months ago, but it is not available anymore. :(

Anyways, I am afraid that 7850 is not going to fit in my tower case tbh...

7770 seems to be beaten by both 6850 and 650 ti.

But out of all the mentioned before 7850 seems the most powerful, if not to consider 480. So would you really recommend save a bit and get 7850, lets say by MSI (not that I know what the difference is with the other ones) ?

Please help me to make final decision. I need to make a decision before New Years :)

7850, as I said before, seems the most powerful, but it is out of my price range and I am afraid that it will make my CPU a "bottleneck". If it is not, then please advice me on the difference between makes (MSI/Sapphire and Asus), otherwise could you recommend me one of these: 7770 or 650 ti? Thank you

There will be a bottleneck, though with an overclock (3ghz +)on your cpu, it'll make upgrading to the 7850 worthwhile. If it's of any use, until recently I was using the same cpu clocked to 3.4ghz with an overclocked gtx480 (gtx580 performance) (about 15 - 20% faster than a 7850 @ stock), and everything was fine. Sure, I've noticed an improvement with my new cpu, but I held off upgrading for so long because just about everything ran more than adequately for my needs.

This is one of the better makes :

I bet it is a great GPU, but it is pretty much double of my innitial budget.

P.S. Merry Xmas by the way!

Thank you very much for all your advices, will consider them all and make my decision :) Have a nice holidays and happy New Year everyone :)

P.S. do you know any reliable articles or posts on overclocking and cooling down my q6600?
