Hello so my build is old here it goes-

GIGABYTE GA-B85M-D3H
I7 4770k
16gb 1666hz
Artic 650 psu
Watercooled and over clocked cpu to 4ghz.
Originally had the asus 970 turbo gpu in.

Decided to upgrade cpu to a nvidia 2080 OC today and after I plugged it in the lights came on for a split second and then went off and nothing powered up.
Left it unplugged for a bit, took gpu out and it powered up.
Plugged gpu back in and nothing again. Took battery out to reset cmos nothing still. Took gpu out again and nothing would power up again. Now I've left it unplugged downstairs. Any ideas?
Thank you in advance.

Fairly certain it will be your power supply. The symptoms you’re seeing are very typical of a weak or dying PSU.

Hopefully you’ve not done any damage to your other components, if it’s now not powering up though... Maybe try it again in the morning without the GPU/your old setup?

Make sure you keep all the items and packaging in good nick with the new PSU, just in case it’s not PSU and you can return it then.

But hopefully it is just that and it gets you up and running. :)

Well after buying the damn psu I went down this morning made sure its all plugged in and it turned on ‍♂️ I moved my computer slightly and it all turned off. So it's got a loose connection somewhere. But it's all working now so yeh silly computer

What is it working with the 2080 GPU installed? Have you tried gaming with it and/or running a few video benchmarks to ensure it's stable?

Yeh tested a few video benchmarks quickly before work and stress test on the old counterstrike source and it ran OK. But for some reason I can't change it to 144hz

Make sure GPU drivers are up to date, or try a fresh GPU driver reinstall. And check your monitor drivers are installed too, not often people bother doing that.

Then just try a reboot and check the refresh rate settings again in Nvidia control panel. No reason why it shouldn’t if you have a 144hz display.

What cable are you using to connect GPU to monitor, using DisplayPort or HDMI? You’ll need to use DP if you’re not already. I don’t think HDMI works for 144hz to PC.
