Hey guys, i bought an i5-760 for £120 so i have a quad core for BF3, now im looking for a graphics card in the £150 range
but if there is something much better for say £175ish id probably get it. I play at 1680x1050 and im upgrading from a Sapphire 5830.

£150 will get you a 6870 or a 560, which'd be a step up, albeit not a huge one. For a noticeable improvement at this point you'd either have to get something like a 2GB 6950 or run two cards. Put that 5830 in Crossfire with a £99 5850 and you'll get more performance than a 2GB 6950'd get you (which costs around £200), but only 1GB of memory, which may or may not be a problem in BF3.

I wouldn't get a decent upgrade over my 5830 for £150-175? I thought the 5830 wasn't that good anymore looking at benchmarks. Though i can play BC2 on high, im thinking more of BF3.

Depends on how you look at it. :) Have a look at this and you'll see that a 6870/560 will give you a 7-8 FPS boost, which isn't that much if you ask me. A 6950 2GB will bring it up to 25 FPS, which is 10 FPS higher. Pair your 5830 with a 5850 and you'll be looking at just under 35 (which 2x 5850s get) which is quite decent.

Now, these figures are all average FPS and the highs and lows will vary a lot more than just a few frames per second. Metro 2033 is also quite a fleshy game in terms of the sheer amount of effects on screen at any time, but since you're wanting to play BF3... :) If you instead look at BFBC2, the difference between the cards is greater - a lone 5850 gets 10 FPS more than your 5830. But then two of them gets more than twice the 5830's.

So, personally, I would (and will) go for a Crossfire setup. Cheap since you already have a card and in terms of average FPS it'll put you above a £200 card.

Sorry i meant to say that i was really trying to avoid crossfire and if i wanted a single gpu your thinking i need to spend £200ish to see a difference?

Ahh, right. Yes, I'd say so I'm afraid. Either that or wait for the new series in Autumn.

Depends on what you're playing of course, but as I imagine BF3 will be quite demanding...

Yeah i was hoping to play on med/high at 1680x1050. I may just wait for the new series and sell my 5830 for £50-60.
