Ive just bought a Msi 7990 , at first everything seemed ok , i did a few basic benchmarks with out issue (3Dmark 11, vantage , heaven etc etc ) however after playing a few games the monitor would just randomly go blank and go into power saving mode.

So i thought i would investigate further.

I ran the OCCT power supply test and the screen went offf in about 30 seconds , basically as soon as the fans ramped up as the temps neared 90 degrees.

I tried looping vantage a few times at 2560x1440 everything maxed and on the third test the screen would go blank, pretty much as the fans ramped up and the card was under heavy load.

I put my old 7970 in its place and ran the same tests and everything was fine, no crashes no issues, however i'm very aware that the 7970 isn't going to put as much stress on the psu as the 7990 would so im still unsure what is the issue.

Specs

Asus z77 sabertooth
Intel 3770k @ 4.5ghz
Custom water loop , Twin fan ex240 rad
16gb Kingston blue
MSI 7990
OCZ ZX 850 psu

many thanks

Turned out to be the 7990 , i swapped out the PSU and still the same, it would even fail while running vantage at 1440p on extreme settings :(

It seems this happens when the second core gets to around 90 degrees then *poof* the screen will go blank and the system hangs.
