GPU Problems

I just bought a new GTX 980 and have had some problems when playing battlefield 4 and other games. Before i had a GTX 660. It manged to run BF4 at about 50FPS on ultra most of the time.

I upgraded to a GTX 980 and noticed that at no matter what quality i set the game to Battlefield would still run at around 40FPS and occasionally drops as low as 10FPS.

I've re-installed the game but honestly don't know what else i can do.

At first i thought it may be a driver issue soi forced an update with Geforce experience but it didn't help.

System Specs
AMD FX8350 (4.0Ghz)
16Gb Kingston HyperX RAM
Samsung 840Evo 250Gb SSD
1Tb Hitachi HDD
GTX 980
Asrock FX990 Exterme 3 Motherboard

When i look at benchmarks for other systems online which are similar to mine they all have much higher FPS. I don't think there is a problem with my CPU as it ran faster when the GTX 660 was installed.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how i can improve my FPS in games?

Okay, uninstalled old drives and installed new Nvidia drivers. I get about 50/60FPS on Siege Of Shanghai but still drops down to 25FPS. I am only playing at 1920x1080. I was expecting around 90FPS :L

i didn't bother benchmark this time to compare but will do soon. Atm im using Bf4 at ultra but it doesnt matter if i lower quality FPS stays about 50/60 (VSync is off).
In heaven benchmark, before uninstalling and re-installing drives i got a low of 2.5FPS, an average of 50 and a max of 168 but i never saw it at 168 :L
Metro 2033 however gets around 150FPS on max settings but it is an older game.

I have only re-installed the Nvidia drivers. I dont think i should re-install the game as i seem to have lower FPS than before in multiple games and benchmarks.

Seems like a very weird situation. What is your gpu usage in-game? If its less than 100% that would make it seem like a CPU problem, even though it was running better fps with your older card

Also, if you've got afterburner installed or anything like that, try sliding the power limit up to 120% and see if that helps?

I've only ever seen my GPU run at 70% load max when benchmarking. The CPU is cooled by a H60 but the radiator is a bit loose however it never gets warmer than 50 degrees. I overclocked the CPU and it didn't help.

I reckon you should do a 3d mark firestrike run. That way you can check the GPU score to see if it's in line with other 980 GPU scores (note make sure it's the GPU score, not the combined score since that will fluctuate depending on CPU, etc.). That'll let you know if the card is operating correctly and the issue is elsewhere.

What power supply do you have out of interest?
My PSU is a corsair 750W one. Can't remember the name of it :L
I don't think there are any power issues. I might try to swap out the PCI-E power cable but it doesn't look damaged :L

I'll try running fire strike.

Okay. So i installed GPU-Z and compared my card to others on Google images (Professional). I noticed that my PCI-E interface is 2.0 (I thought it was 3 :L) however, i don't think it would effect performance too much? I also noticed that the sub vendor is undefined! is my card a fake?!

Unless I missed this reply.

In Nvidia control panel under Manage 3D Settings.

Make sure Power Managment mode is on max, I've found that everytime I install new drivers it sets it to silly power saving mode, Giving me really really bad FPS in any games.

Worth a look?

Thanks, I've done this and am getting 120FPS which is good. Thanks for your help.
