I'm thinking of upgrading my monitor from an old Dell G2410 to one of the new 3440 x 1440 monitors like the Samsung S34E790C. My current GPU is the Nvidia GTX 760 (4Gb GDDR5). I am not a heavy gamer, but I do like watching movies. I appreciate any advice you guys may have regarding whether I will need to upgrade the GPU as well when I get the new monitor. I would prefer to stay with Nvidia cards.

My system includes Intel I7-4790K, 32 Gb RAM, running Windows 10 (1511) x64

Thanks in anticipation

Steve

My advice is to grab a 980Ti or wait it out for Pacal but with not knowing what Pascal card is released first (big or small), then it is a gamble if you wait.

what game do you play because a 980ti is a big outlay for a none big gamer. the 390 will do light to mid gaming at 1440. i use a 290 at 1440.

I'm only really just starting out on the gaming side..... looking at Rainbow six seige when I get the new monitor.... but usage will be light

;)

any way a new 390 or 390X is cheaper than a secondhand 980 so... it still the better choice no?

980ti is best you can get but if your usage is going to be light then it would be a bit of a waste and a high price to pay for such minimal usage. Any card will handle the movies and games wise you'd be set fine with a 390 or 380x really.
