GPU Sag

Hi,

Is there anything I can buy to stop my GPU from sagging down at the corner? I was going to buy some PCI-E extension cables and wrap it round coming from the top to pull it up but is there any other solutions?

Powercolor used to sell a jack thing that was for keeping gpu's perched upright.

I've just bought some thin wooden dowling from a craft shop and will prop the end up with that.

Ninja wire or fishing wire. Personally I route the PCI-e cables from the hole above so they support the cards nice and tight. Its a corsair 640d case so it still looks tidy even if you can see a touch more of the cable

I use Ninja wire,Although it can pe a P.I.T.A to find somewhere to hook it to at the top of the case.

I tried getting one of these Power colour power jacks but they are seriously hard to get hold of..i couldn't find any.

Depending on how tall you need it, a clear biro pen with the inside removed and cut to length?

You could switch to a case with a rotated motherboard so the GPU is vertical.

Use a ruler or such to check the card isn't warping rather than 'sagging'.

You can add a backplate to the card to help give it strength but the additional weight will compound things if it's sagging rather than warping.

this simply makes the card sag the other way, trust me, iv got a bitfenix outlaw and a 6950 2gb

Or just don't worry about it? The manufacturer must have determined that it's an acceptable amount of flex... hopefully.

Mine sags and while it may well be within MSI's idea of tolerance, I don't like the idea that it could bugger up my motherboard... plus it looks utterly awful!!

I'm designing myself something discrete that looks like it belongs in my case, as I think that PowerJack thing looks god-awful... Might as well just install a concrete pillar in my case!!

Yeah its more appearance for me too. I can get the PCI-E cables to work coming from the top but only if I flip my PSU

I had a triple slot GTX570 DCU2 which was so heavy and sagged so much that it partially pulled the plastic PCI-E socket off of the metal pins.

I ended up propping the card up with a conveniently sized plastic tube after I had repaired the motherboard.

It is stupid that they are designed in this way. The stock backplates do nothing to add to the stiffness on some cards either, they are just decorative.

I don't get what they are playing at. My old, and hugely heavy 295 didn't sag, neither did my 4870X2 because they both had appropriate measures in place to make sure they didn't (really thick metal backplates) and even my GTX660 (MSI TF3) had a re-inforced edge which stopped it from sagging. Why can't all manufacturers adopt this practice?

My current 670 DCU2 sags, and when propped up straight it overheats. :rolleyes:

One of the screws which holds the backplate on also snapped under the strain. So they can cause permanent damage to themselves too.
