GPU snobbery?

I'm running a 5 year old 8800GT right now, it does BC2 @ 1080p on medium, since BF3 will have lower requirements I have no worries about keeping it.

Though I wouldn't mind a 4870 or 5770 or similar... :D

May i ask how do you no BF3 will have lower requirements?

Currently running a 5770, I can play everything happily at 2048x1156, if I can't run it then I just drop the AA a little, doesn't really bother me. When I get some money will probably get a second hand 6870 and sell the 5770.

Never really seen the point in paying so much to run at over the top settings.

I think a good mentality for this is:

If it aint broke, don't fix it.

I know we all get the desire to upgrade, but sometimes I often wonder when it crosses my mind, whether spending £100 more than I did previously to get a better card that might offer 5% difference is worth it. However I come to realise it's just more money and hassle, that is what it is.

I recently built a i5 2500k, 8Gb DDR3, 6870 machine and it runs everything I play at 60fps at max or very close to it. Initially I intended to buy a 6950 but was £90 more so I'm glad I went for the more modest 6870 instead.

I totally understand why people want the latest and greatest because it can feel like you're missing out if not hitting 60fps maxed out but if you're getting good performance within budget at your native rez then you can't ask for more.

As someone has said before, today's high end cards are tomorrow's bargains. Almost every card I've bought in the last few years has been used and does just fine. You can get 4870s used for around £35 and such, can't see the need to spend any more than that at my res really!
