GPU throttling

Hi guys,

Got a bit of an odd one with my GTX960. I've got it clocked up quite high and all seems fine until I run Firestrike.

Gaming isn't an issue, it runs perfectly. Kombustor isn't bothering it either. It gets through the first section of Firestrike (demo?) fine but then clocks itself down.

I've had GPUZ running and noticed that the core and memory clock are at full speed for the 'demo' bit of the benchmark (section 1 below) but drops off for the 2 GPU tests and Combined test (2,3 &4). There's nothing untoward happening with heat or voltage and the load throughout all 4 stages is the same so I don't get why it's clocking down and giving me such a naff score?

Try stock run to see if issue still exists.

Possibly your hitting the powerlimit of the card. Which Driver???

It's fine at stock, I've been creeping the OC up a bit at a time and it does seem to do it when I try to push the core too high and then won't resolve itself until I restart my system.

Seems odd that it passes everything else and doesn't get close to thermal limits though, cranking the power limit in Afterburner doesn't seem to help either!

Still, 1504Mhz core, 8000Mhz memory isn't too bad I suppose :p

Maybe issue is OS related or maybe issue is Power Limit. Windows 10 I have not been at all satisfied with when it comes to OC performance.

Nvidia drivers really tight on throtling with Power Limit these days. Dial back the OC and try again. Anything 353 onwards is throttling hard without hardware mods.

I might roll it back if I fancy doing a suicide run at some point then. 7679 isn't a terrible score for the 960 though

In all honesty. If it is working fine in games, then i would not worry. why be bothered if a synthetic benchmark does not work when all your games are fine?

Because I'm an overly competitive fool with not much money so I like to know my cheapo GPU is up there with the best of the other cheapo GPUs :p
