Hi Guys,

Thought it was about time i updated my gaming rig, not that i get much chance to play anything these days.

Here is what i have -

Case - Antec 900
PSU - Coolermaster 650
M/B - ASUS P5N32-SLI PREMIUM
CPU - Q6600 2.4
GPU - 8800GTX
RAM - 2gig DDR2 PC2-6400 (399mhz)

I have an extremely limited budget and so can't afford to upgrade everything in one go, therefore i thought i'd start with the graphics card. My question is will replacing the 8800GTX with something like an HD4890 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-101-PC&tool=3 give me a significant boost in gaming performance over what i have? for overall visuals and framerates.

I'll then probably upgrade the RAM to something better than the old cheap generic stuff i have, so any suggestions on an upgrade for the RAM would be highly appreciated. I'll be looking for 4 gig for when i upgrade to vista 64.

Many thanks for any help, it's appreciated.

Simply put, yes it would.

I suggest, as everyone is at the moment, waiting till the end of the month when the 5*** series comes out, prices may lower and you should be able to pick up a 4890 for less or a 2nd hand one for much less.

ye the 4890 is a gr8 upgrade to ur aging card, also only 2gigs of ram really bottlenecks the system.
also like the above post if you can wait til then, or if you can get a bit extra cash get the new 5850

Personally i'd try and get your cpu/mobo etc first as you normally get a lot performance waiting a month or 2 for a gpu than a cpu and the 8800gtx still isn't a bad card.

example the 2 month wait my give you an extra 200mhz while a the 2 month wait for a gpu could shift you from a 4870 to a 4890 if your paying the same price.

Edit* but the 4890 would be a good upgrade.
