GPU upgrade and CPU question

Ok firstly Hi to everyone here :)

and here is my current system specs:

Windows 7 64 Bit
6GB DDR2
Gigabyte GA-M720
AMD Phenom II X4 940
Nvidia XFX GTX 275 XXX
Dell 2209WA

I am looking to upgrade my GPU and have a budget of £280 max

I have been looking at a GTX570 and have found these two:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-112-MS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1010
£239.99

Or an overclocked version of the above for £255

Is there any reason to get the OC version over the other, can i not just OC the standard version to the same level?

Also will my current CPU handle a 570 or would it bottleneck the 570

I am open to other cards in my budget but i thought the 570 looked a good buy and i prefer Nvidia tbh...

Thanks for any advice.

Forget the gtx570 and get this.

Its cheaper, is the same speed and comes with more memory. There is no reason to go for the gtx570 as some would say its an inferior cards due to it having less memory. The gtx480 i linked to also comes with a custom cooler so the main bad points of the stock design are not an issue i.e heat and noise. It does use a little more power than the gtx570 but if you have a decent psu it won't be an issue.

I agree with this. So much so that I bought an SE for myself. Overclocks brilliantly to within 580 speeds and your PSU is more than good enough. Save yourself some money and go with the 480!

Thanks for the info guys. although is the noise/heat not greater than the 570?
Also my monitor has native res of 1680x1050, i beleive the 480 comes into it's own at higher resolutions.

Get the SOC version not the SE, it's on special.

Unlike other 480s the GB SOC is cool and quiet

The SE is just as cool and quiet and also on special. There's been a few noted issues with the SOC (artefacts and such) and the SE will OC to SOC speeds easily. Neither is a bad choice though!

This is what i have: http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/power_supply/enermax_infiniti_720w_modular_psu/1

Is there anyone who has or had both the 480 and 570? i would like a user opinion of noise/heat differences. i really like the look of the 480 but i am a bit concerned about the noise. even my 275 gets rather noisy at high use!
That PSU is more than fine for a GTX480, even with it and the rest of the system overclocked.

As for noise level, the GTX480 SOC is very quiet...you can see the review on the noise level here:
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Gigabyte/GeForce_GTX_480_SOC/26.html
38dbA under load...much quieter than most of the cards with reference coolers out there.

The GTX480 WILL have higher power consumption than GTX570, but spec wise it is slighting better, with more VRAM.

I think I'm about to pull the trigger on the 480 soc, great price, quiet and near gtx580 performance!

Will sleep on it and decide tomorrow :)

Thanks all for the advice.

Well i've slept and the card will be here tomorrow ;)

Looking at the noise levels it will be even quieter than my 275 XXX

I am thinking about returning this card! Stock levels brand new out of the box i'm getting major atrifacts on all games, some worse than others.

Just ran OCCT for 6 mins and 21772 errors, i'm not even going to mess around with the voltages really i shouldn't have to.

Maybe i'm one of the unlucky ones, very dissapointed and wish i'd gone with the 570 ;(

EDIT: ran Heaven and many many green artifacts throughout the test.

Also a strange thing, gigabyte oc guru is showing 0 volts for the gpu is this normal? i tried raising the voltage and it instantly crashed my pc!

This is the reason I went for a reference Asus card (Which has been perfect, if a little noisy) while everyone told me it was rubbish  Time for an RMA I think :(
