Greetings to all.

I am looking for a GPU update this Christmas to replace my XFX 6870 1GB which is unfortunately giving up the ghost and currently have a budget of £260 max.

Here are my current options:

SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X R9 280X 3GB GDDR5 OC

Sapphire TOXIC R9 280X 3GB

ASUS AMD Radeon R9 280X DirectCU II TOP OC 3GB GDDR5

Gigabyte Nvidia GTX760 4GB DDR5

My current set up is:

i5 2500k 3.3Ghz
Asrock P67 ProS3
4GB 1333mhz (Don't worry, also upgrading!)
Corsair 750W PSU
22 inch 1080p LG monitor
3 fans included in case

I know my mainboard isn't the best, but has never failed me thus far and performs well in all applications and games.

Thank you in advance.

You can get a Gainward 4gb 770gtx with 3 games for £260 if you shop around (but not on OC). Though I'm not sure what Gainward are like.

Thank you for the reply.

My current PSU is actually a 550W OCZ S as the Corsair 750W might take two weeks to be delivered. How would these either of these cards perform on this PSU until then?

The Toxic is special and I'd fancy it more than the Vapor-X. Go for it if you can find it in your budget and have enough space for it.

Don't consider a 4GB 760 over a 280X unless you're certainly going to go SLI, although people would still point to the 256bit bus as a limiting factor, even with 4GB and 780 topping performance of 760 SLI.

The 550w PSU should be adequate until the 750w arrives.

Thank you very much, RanxZy. I found a 280x Toxic on the BT store for £250. (Not sure if it is definitely in stock) But for a card like that I'd allocate more money to.

I won't be using SLI, no. If my 6870 is anything to go by as a single GPU, I had no problems at all playing all the latest games at reasonable frame rate. Just looking to future proof for a game such as Watch Dogs or other 'Next gen' ports to PC, etc.

Overall though, would there be any complications with my hardware? Bottlenecks or temperature. My case is the Coolermaster Elite 430 too.

A silly rule but I'll adhere to it. The reason why I mentioned the BT Store was just in terms of stock and the first that came up on my search for a decent graphics card. I'm not linking to 'competitor' sites (Sounds rather elitist in itself) merely mentioning it.

I'd buy from Overclockers UK if the prices weren't absurd when I could buy it for over half the price elsewhere.

It's not really the best time to buy an AMD card, the low stock is pushing prices higher..

I'd go for a 290 If you could get one soon.

Hmm. Thank you all for the help.

I might go with the Vapor X. While the Toxic is desirable, very low stock and heavy power consumption. But if I see one under £260 before Christmas, I'll be sure to buy it!

If not though, the Vapor X is still a great choice from videos I've watched of it in performance.

Decided to go for the Asus Radeon R9 280X DirectCU II due to low noise. The Vapor X I was going to go for but after hearing it at full load, that noise would make my ears bleed.
