GPU upgrade time... finally!

Bit of a necro but finally pulled the trigger on this :D so waiting for my HXi 1000 PSU from Corsair and the 7900 XTX Nitro+ to arrive :)

That's gonna be one hell of an upgrade!

970 is (or at least was at some point) about as fast as the 780ti I've got in a spare rig....and my journey since then has been: 780ti > 1070 > 3060ti > 7900xt :D
Guessing you'll be looking at at least 5x the fps you got before!

At least I can play new(er) games at decent framerates... just need a new monitor now to be able to see them at higher than 60FPS!

To be fair I could use a new monitor. This one got scratched during the house move a couple of years ago, it's not really bad but it's there and if nothing else gives me an excuse :D though the wife doesn't mind/care about me spending money on my PC. She knows she is in a 3 way relationship and often refers to my PC as The Mistress :D

Agree with this. Out of all the overprice graphic cards of this gen, the 7900XT 20GB with its price now dropping toward £750 it is the best perf/£ card.

I got my 6900XT with two games for £649.99 back in November last year in the Overclockers deal, but if I was to get a new graphic card now, the 7900XT is a no-brainer with it not only being around 18% faster, it also has more vram and better RT capability.
I managed to get the xt for 699 with a starfield code, the only way I found it palatable.

I posted that back in April though, and people that got the card around that time or 1 or 2 months before that they would already have had nearly 6 months of use out of it.

Back then out of all the overpriced/underperforming cards, the 7900XT 20 GB was pretty much the only card (excluding those that buy Nvidia cards exclusively) that was the "best value" and somewhat worth a consideration, despite it was still very expensive.

Isnt the 7800xt a decent option ? plenty of suggestions for the 6800xt but the 7800xt does seem to stand out at the moment for its value* proposition, easily bettter value than the 4070 and 4070ti and the jump in price to the 7900xt is too much for the relative gains in performance.

*value for this gen, obviously this gen as a whole is a joke regarding real value.

When the 4090 can be considered one of the "best bang for bucks" card in this gen, you'd just know how overpriced the cards below it are

Don't buy the 6800XT now, there's nothing wrong with it, it's a great card, but the 7800XT is a superior replacement that will age better.
