GPU Upgrade

Hey,

im currently running a Geforce 250 GTS and im wanting to upgrade to something a little better. My budget is around 100

setup atm:

Q6600
OCZ 700w PSU
3GB Ram
Foxconn Motherboard from a premade Packard Bell Ixtreme

Ive been looking at this card but im just wondering if you have any feedback or any better suggestions

Why i ATI over a Nvidia may i ask? Is there any down side on getting a ATI card. Ive ever only had Nvidia

If you want an Nvidia card only thing close to £100 is a GTX 460.

Benchmark results between 460 and 6850

Only downside is no physx support.

+1 for the 6850. Second hand you could probably grab a 6870 quite easily too.

Nah the 550ti looks poor.

6850 is the fastest, if you want Nvidia get the 460.

Or look second hand.

Im amazed to say i honestly thought the higher the model the better the GPU, how naive i am -_-

Yeah the 6850/6870 look very nice on the benchmarks. Just a little scary going for a ATI when you've always had Nvidia

When it comes to Nvidia the first number is the family, the second two digits is the placement in that family.

So for 400 series gpus

You have a hierachy of:

480
470
460
450

Same goes for the 500 series.

570
560
550

Is not the first number you want to consider but the second two really.

If you want to play it safe, go for the 460 it is an overclocked version, and Im 100% it will make you happy.

It has a large overclock on it so Im sure it catches up to the 6850.

Bit of an off topic question, i noticed these cards take x2 pci express cables and i only have one with my OCZ 700w PSU :s. It was from a friend and he only had one for it

Is there anyway possible i would beable to get another one of these?

An adaptor will come with the card to use a molex connector instead. I'm surprised an OCZ 700W only has one? Or is it modular and it's lost?
