Hi guys,

When I play BF3, I get issues where my GPU usage drops and then FPS stutters, I notice this when I die and going to kill cam and respawning again. However, it still does it when just playing normally. I do notice though my HDD light goes on for about 2 - 3 seconds when it stutters.

I've tried med, high and ultra settings and it still happends. I've tried standard clocks and have tried to turn HT off my I7 but still does the same. I was on 11.11 but tried 11.12 drivers and does the same thing :(

Any idea folks? Thanks.

Thanks :)

So it means I'm limited by the amount of system ram and GPU ram I have?

What does paging actually do mate?

Thanks a bunch :)

Things that should be in Vram and more system ram in written to the or pulled from the harddrive because there was no room in Vram and or system ram.
But it can happen for many other reasons besides space.

Cheers for that!

I've allowed another 4GB of paging to go onto my smaller hard drive so its shared with my OS partition and my downloading partition!

I'll see how I get on, thanks :)

Hmm...
Its the paging itself that is slow thus sometimes the cause.

Does that mean then its the actualy RAM paging or have I done the wrong thing?

Paging to and from the Hard drive is slow, from system ram to Vram is much faster, but you cant use what is not there, so if lack of Vram and System ram is the problem then increasing the page on the harddrive will not help.

Do this: right click the bf3.exe launch file then select properties>compatibility then "disable desktop composition" tick the box. This should mean the game will use around 150-200mb less vram and many have used this including myself gaining better performance.

Best trick ever for BF3. I notaced a difference immedatly :)

Thanks guys, I've done everything you guys have told me and seems to have done the trick (on metro which i've just tried) and it constantly stays on 99% usage which is fantastic!

What card would you guys recommend? Would the VRAM on the GTX 570 be enough, and I was going to SLI them too for max settings while getting 60 FPS at all times?

Thanks guys, you sir's are legends!

Wait for the 7950/7970 models in Jan they will be a big upgrade for you.

The disable desktop composition in the Properties i do as a matter of course in all my full screen games or when i run a game across all 3 screens in a window as desktop composition uses more GPU resources as well as Vram.
It really should be added in one of the sticky's.
Oh and turn off Hardware acceleration in Browsers and also close them if possible as that's saves Vram and GPU resources again.

Click Join Map and close the Browser once it looks like its doing so or Alt Tab or LeftAlt and Enter after join a BF3 map close the Browser then go back to full screen.
