Not too long ago I replaced the stock cooler on my 4870 with an Arctic cooling accelero twin turbo. This cooler has been doing me proud with regards to both noise and temperature.

Alas this happy union could not live forever.

Earlier today I opened my case to add a new HDD only to notice that a little stick on heatsink from one of the voltage regulators had fallen off.

So here goes:

Any tips for making sure the damn things stay on?

Are they necessary?

What damage (if any) is likely to have been caused to my card?

Edit: is there any way to rectify the typo in the title?

I expect it will just crash if it overheats. You any idea how long it's been unstuck for? Tbh it's prolly for the best it's not used with that missing but I could be wrong.

In all honesty I don't know how long. Definitely less than a week though. I haven't noticed any artefacts and I've had no crashes so I'm going to assume all is ok.
I'll be off to town tomorrow to buy thermal adhesive pads.
