Been inactive for ages due to moving house, move getting messed up, no internet etc etc, back online as of last night, and my question is anyone folding using the new (new to me anyway) gpu2 beta client? If so, what sort of PPD do you get?

**EDIT**
Well I have started it running and I'm getting 2200PPD according to fahmon.

Which card is that?

I think most people with dual-cores have moved onto the WinSMP client.

3870, I have the choice of this or running winSMP as a background process, just wanted to know which would give more PPD. Would this not give me more PPD than a single winSMP client?

I've left the card at default speeds but it is only the DDR3 version so the memory runs bit slower I think, might try to OC it later and see if I can get it to go any faster. The next WU is running at ~2300PPD now.

Nice card :)

Which CPU do you have? I doubt a dual-core will attain those kinds of PPD on WinSMP, but then you won't be shortening the life of your graphics card, or using the same amount of leccy.

Thanks I got it from the bay for 60 quid which i thought was a pretty good deal :]

dual core 6600 @3.6ghz, I'm not hugely bothered about electric but I don't really want it to kill my card, its sitting at 62 degrees currently which i thought was pretty ok for a gpu, seems to constantly keep 1 core at roughly 75% usage, I'm wondering if I can run this + a SMP instance with the SMP set to low instead of idle? Or would that just kill them both down to low PPD's

£60 was an awesome price!

An E6600 @3.6ghz may be able to get 2500ppd running just a WinSMP client. It's a great chip for WinSMP with its 4mb cache. But I'm not sure if you'd make the short preferred WinSMP deadlines running on just one core and the GPU client on the other core.

I'd certainly test running just a single WinSMP client. A CPU can handle being run full blast 24/7 better than a GPU can.

It was from a review site so I guess thats why the cheap price, they got it for free themselves :P I will test winSMP, is it still better to use a VMlinux over windows smp client? I could set it up I guess.

The linuxSMP in VMWare can be a bit faster than the WinSMP client, but whether it's worth the hassle and extra memory usage to upto yourself. Can't see you getting much more than 2400-2500ppd out of it.

In XP I take it (judging from your Fahmon shot)?

It's usually pretty hardy in XP. It's Vista that usually causes the problems.

Things like ensuring that you have a password on your windows user account, installing WinSMP to a folder outside Program Files, running the install.bat file from a command line rather than in Explorer, setting the 'use Internet Explorer settings' to No etc etc.

Yeah its windows XP, well I tried a reinstall but the same hanging occurs, I tried it on my other PC at it started DLing a new WU straight away :/

Got SMP working on VMware'd ubuntu 8.04 install, thats hanging at the exact same spot :(
171.64.65.56 is the work server im attempting to recieve from, it doesn't say its down or anything on stanford
