Hiya guys,

Im trying to use Grabit, coupled with Giganews on Virgin's National broadband service... now my service has never been slow, as I sit practically on top of the exchange, downloading from Steam etc well over 100KB's

I'm new to Grabit and Giganews however my download speed is painfully slow at around 15KB's which doesnt seem right, does anyone have any ideas?

Grabit and Giganews should run at the maximum speed that your broadband allows. I don't know anything about Virgin though - maybe they are throttling? Can you use SSL?

Which Virgin service are you on?

Im using the national service, about 2 miles away from the exchange, ive spoken to virgins tech support in regards to throttling but they say while there is a cap it should not be as drastic as it is

Get on the Virgin support newsgroups. They have competent 2nd line support on there as opposed to variable quality 1st line on the phones.

Hiya guys,

That's not really fast. If you go to speedtest.net what speeds do you see?

What speed broadband are you supposed to be on? VM only throttle during the day, so if you do these tests after 9/10pm when the throttling stops and when you should normally be downloading it will be fairly accurate as to what you should be/are getting.

Have you tried using the VM Newsgroup access instead of Giganews just to see if its the connection to the giganews server?

Yeah if it's ADSL you may be getting ass speeds, I use Grabit on VM Cable and get max speed 100% of the time so 2300KB/sec.
