Grammar - Which Is Correct?

well, if you dont shorten it it would read as "offside was not as good as last time" but as they are a band, it should really be they (offsring) were not as good as last time.


In other words, it's 'weren't' that you should be using.

If, from the start, she'd said 'the band wasn't as good' then she'd have been correct. Instead she said 'offside wasn't as good' which is incorrect.

Use james miller's example. Expand the contraction wasn't and put it in the initial quoted sentence in the OP. Now expand weren't and put it in the initial quoted sentence.

Remember the words are contractions.

Offside was not as good

Offside were not as good.

The first is pretty poor english, the second is correct.
