Grand Designs - I have a stupid question

Kevin McCloud is indeed a moron.

When visiting my old University he insisted on lecturing us for nearly 2 hours on the importance of green design. He was really shoving it down our necks and stating how it was our responsibility for the future world how green design must be implemented at every given oppurtunity despite costings as money was "irrelevant".

Personally, I don't fully agree with the sustainability of a design that costs triple and has to be demolished/renewed after 30 years but that is another debate.

Then following the guest lecture, the hypocrite proceeded to loudly complain about his 'poor appearance fee' and then drive off in his 5.0 litre Range Rover Sport.

 Srsly?

Thats pretty bad.

I will have a lot of hoops to jump through to build this house I designed. I was planning to start last year, but wussed out and bought a "ready made" house. The planning and council stuff just lloks like too much to bear :-(

My site about it http://www.ecodomehome.co.uk/

I'm sorry but as much as I like unusually designed houses that looks absolutely foul. Looks like someone went ahead and mated Epcot with a giant starfish then decided to put a ww2 beach bunker on top for good measure.

If I press the thing at the top down does the house light up?

Form over function with this one :-)

Do you have a google maps link so I can see the area?

I'm afraid we are not giving out any information that helps identify us or the location of the site - thats part of our complaint to GD - they were specifically forbidden from doing so but did anyway for anyone with half an ounce of internet awareness. You might understand how serious that is is you look at some of the more oafish posts on other forums that suggest physical violence against us and arson against our property - given that it was GD portrayal of us that has led to people forming that bad an opinion of us.

Good to see your sense of humour has not been damaged too much.

Even in the depths of darkness (and believe me there have been some of those) you have to try and retain some sort of sense of humour. And, if I can put it this way, if I were to present everything that had gone on as a script idea for monty python - they would reject it on the grounds of being just too silly.... :)

the full majesty

Surly in this context that's an oxymoron, Monstrosity perhaps. And what's all this nonsense about "natural". There's nothing natural about a milk carton inspired, American watermill in South Oxford.

As for his "Gaudi" shop front (I guess its meant to look like a poor man's Casa Mila). He's to late, it was already done in Middlesbrough in the late 1980's

Last nights was good, Loved the collapsing arch mid Mcdrivel drivel.

Client was an Architect as well so at least he didn't sack himself, seemed like a nice bloke as well.

At the end though when Mccloud went back, wtf was going on with his hair ? It looked like he had left a single roller in on the top of his head

I quite like the idea of building my own house, but I doubt I will ever be able to afford to do so.

I'm not a regular viewer of GD, however whenever I watch it, the houses always seem to be aimed at couples or families with 1 child, and the houses look fairly inflexible as to expansion.

If I were to build my own house it would require:
4-5 bedrooms
An En-suite bathroom in the master bedroom (separated by real walls)
1 kitchen
1 dining room
1 study
1 Home Cinema
1 Games room
1 Lounge
1 Utility Room
1 Basement (come bomb shelter)
1 Attic
1 Cloak Room
1 Communal Bathroom
1 Double Garage + Space for Guests Parking.
Ample space surrounding house for kids to play in.

On top of this, The house would need to:
be as Echo friendly and self sufficient as possible (better than carbon Neutral)
Have a fully wired cat6 network.
Fully interrogated home audio system

As time goes one I suspect I will be adding to this list. It probably seems to be a bit extravagant and OTT, but from my point of view, if I am building a house I want it to be the last home I ever live in.
