Grand National 2016

you do all know the national is a handicapped race? therefore every horse has an equal chance of winning therefore your better off going for ones with higher odds.

LOL you don't suppose that bookies and quite a lot of punters are also aware of what a handicap race is and that this is factored into the odds already... :p

I don't need a Wiki page to tell me how a Handicap horserace is run!

Best of luck with your bets though, if you win you could maybe afford a 4K TV:eek:

I wouldn't wish a crappy 4k lcd on my worst nemesis.

I may however opt for an OLED. But if either do win all of it will be plowed into mods/uprated parts for the car most likely.

what you can't factor in is chance.

horses falling, etc. you could have the best horse and jockey in the world but they wouldn't win it once in 10 tries. it took mc coy his whole lifetime of jockeying to win a national riding favourites and he's regarded as the best jockey of all time yet only won it once with his pick of horses.

anything can happen. so it's usually best to pick randomly rather go for favourites. e.g. pick a name you like rather than what odds they are as a 100-1 shot has just as much chance as a 10-1.

3 years ago it was a 66-1 and 7 years ago it was a 100-1. basically there is no such thing as a tip in this race as every horse has an equal chance of winning.

In the last few years I've not bothered to bet on the Grand National. But my mum always had a flutter. So in her memory I decided to give it a go. Ladbrokes are paying out to 5 places, so I stuck down £20.

£5 - Many Clouds - 8/1 - Win
£2.50 - On His Own - 33/1 - E/W
£2.50 - First Lieutenant - 50/1 - E/W
£2.50 - Boston Bob - 20/1 - E/W

don't see the point of the E/W on boston bob at least with on his own you get your money back. i would have stuck a £5 on BB to win.

good luck but you will be wondering the same if none of them place apart from BB why you are still £5 down overall.

Like most people who bet on this race, I'm not really an expert on horse racing. The betting slip said my return from Boston Bob would be £67.50. Is that not accurate?

Either way, doesn't really matter. I just chose at random. If I win, yay for me. If I lose, meh.

BB is 20/1

you have placed 2 bets 1 for him to win and 1 for him to place in the top 4/5.

if he wins you get the full odds. so £2.50 x 20 = £50
you would also get the winnings from him placing but they are at 1/4 odds so £50/4 = £12.50.

You also get your original stake back on both so £67.50.

If he comes second you lose on the first bet but win on the second so you get £12.50 plus your stake so £15.

you spent £20 overall so if none of the others place your £5 down even though BB came second.

This is why I wouldn't of bet him each way. You don't really get the satisfaction of winning anything apart from 75% of your money back.

It's not a mistake per say but I would have went all out rather than come back with £15.
