Yes, though I didn't know (until a moment ago) that you can also browse the friends list of other people online, as well as on the Xbox itself.

I think this a great way to add unofficial clan support to a game, surprised we didn't think of it earlier for the other big guns like Halo, COD4 etc.

I think it is a fairly new feature, not sure when exactly it was added though.
