I'm running Quad SLI right now with 2 7950 GX2s. The 8800 GTX's are looking pretty nice though, and I can step-up within the next 2 weeks since I have that EVGA step up prgram so 2 8800's should cost me, im just guessing here, around 120 pounds total?

2 Questions now :) one, is it worth stepping up? I know its DX10 and all, but as people have pointed out, not too many games will be, and also, it'l run only on Vista, and I have no intention of switching to Vista for another year or two. Of course the point is that when I do switch to Vista, I won't have to worry about my gfx cards not being compatible with DX10 and what not.

Also, the serial no. of the card. I think i've throw away all *** original boxes and all so was wondering if there is any other way of finding out the serial no. of the card. Would it be written on the card itself? Or would something like everest or belarac advisor be able to tell me?

Thanks :)

I think if you can step up then its worth doing, i've seen some people saying its been about 120 PER card though, although i may be wrong on that.

If you didn't have a step up then i wouldnt bother. As for serial numbers, they're usually on a sticker on the card somewhere.

Hope this is of some help, if not then someone like Easyrider is your man.
Theres also a thread about step ups on the forums with people looking at the same thing as you.

Should be worth stepping up as i thought Quad SLi didn't work, even 2x x1950 XTX's in Crossfire whoop Quad, and the single G80 whoops the 2x x1950's, so 2x in SLi will be bloody amazing. :D

if you aint getting vista for another year then dont bother. whats the point ??

im taking a wild stab at quad sli being no slouch on the gfx front. and by time you get vista if you waiting a year then there will a whole new series of cards out that everyone will be wanting and will be ditching there 8800's for.

Thanks guys :)

Point is that at taht point, I can get vista, without upgrading my gfx card. If right now I can get 2 top end cards for a 120 pounds, then why not? the step-up won't be avilable to me later on.

If it's 120 pounds total, I think i'l go for it. 120 per card though, probably not. I'l take a look at the serial no. on the card when I get the chance.
