Oh Canada!
In some cases 4GB isn't enough, even going back several years. Doom won't run on nightmare mode on 4GB, and older games like Shadow of Mordor recommend 6GB for max textures at high res.

8 is really the number to aim for at the moment.

which i can get for £215, seems like a good deal?

At £215 the GTX 1060 6gb would be a solid choice for your aging setup and will give it a new lease of life.

It has a relatively low power draw compared to the RX which should also benefit your aging PCIE slot. You may want to consider flashing to the latest BIOS before install.

The RX 580 I linked to is marginally superior but when including p&p you would be saving £55 making the GTX 1060 a solid choice - especially given your setup.

EDIT: Just be sure NOT to get the 3Gb version - it's not the same card. It's essentially a crippled 1060.
