ERm... whats the difference? I was happy to ignore the existance of AGP's but now there are "accelerators" as well... i need to find out what it means :p

thanks

AGP - old connection for graphics cards, now replaced on every new PC with PCI-E slots. Was originally available in different speed slot revisions with the last (and fastest) being 8x. Some AGP systems are still soldiering on with ATI's 3850 being the fastest card released on it (I think).

Accelerators - cards for workstations, not gaming machines. These cards are used for high end CAD stuff and calculations. They're quick and built on a similar architecture as "normal" gaming PCI-E cards, but they can't play Crysis! If you're using a high end workstation at work for design or complex calculations, you might have one of these if the boss has deep enough pockets.

Graphics Cards - these are the bad boys you'll find in any PC that's not using on-board graphics from the motherboard. They're all PCI-E these days, although some older cards may be PCI-E 1.0 rather than the newer and faster PCI-E 2.0. For 90% of the population, this is what you want.
