Graphics Card Baking Fail!

Well,

found a pc in the Shed. thought mhmm this is capable of a bedroom htpc, built her up and no problems. then the artifacts came :(

Checked both memory modules, still an issue - it had to be the Graphics card, time to pre-heat the oven to 200c and cook the board for 10 minutes.

im sure you will smile with me here to see how much dropped off! :( FML

the memory modules are on both sides, something had to give. oh well, its not like it was a stonking gfx card.

Rest in peace little htpc card
 
Over cooked.:D

I find about 7-8 minutes is ample, & less time if it's a fan oven.

Solder has a lower melting point so only need to soften enough it for it to flow.

I have an old x1900 card that has a problem, but I never got around to cooking it because I could not work out how to stop this potentially happening without a fancy support for the heavy components.

Maybe just pressing some tin foil in to a support shape would work ;)

Would make some interesting conversation:

Friend: 'I just overclocked my 6850...now it is running great!'

zeegy: 'I just overcooked my xxxx, now it is not working anymore :('

Friend: 'Overcocked? Dude you mean overclock right?'

zeegy: 'No...I left it in the oven for too long...'

Friend: ' ......'

Friend: '...what is it doing in the oven instead of your PC?'

What card was it?
 
why the hell would you put it in the oven? would be much safer to heat up the components with a hot air gun(not hairdryer)then you can concentrate the heat on individual parts instead of baking the whole thing
