Graphics card BSOD

Hello, very recently i experienced my first BSOD. At the time i did not analyze it and re installed the most recent drivers. then today i was leaving something to download, when my system suddenly shut off and restarted. as the monitor was off i could not tell if it was a BSOD, but i got the "your system did not shut down correctly, start in safe mode blah blah" message. i downloaded blue screen view, and it only shows one dump file, which is from my first (assumed) BSOD. it says it was caused by the driver "dxgkrnl.sys", address "dxg.krnl.sys+5d140" and the crash address "ntoskrnl.exe+75bc0". After researching these codes online, i found that the first two are usually graphics card, and the third code is varied. so i question what is the next step i should take, i have updated all of my drivers and i still had the second shutdown (which i am not sure was a BSOD) so i dont know weather to send back my graphics card, or what step to take next. Another question is if the problem is my video card, who would i send it to for RMA? it is an MSI 7870 but it was bought from overclockers, and some pages suggest that the retailer offers the RMA. and the graphics card i purchased has also been canceled on overclockers, so i am worried that i will not receive any support. thanks for any help!

What is your full system spec and are you overclocking ?

A blue screen does not always mean a graphics card problem even if it states it is related to the graphics card. If you are overclocking it could be an unstable overclock or even the memory on your motherboard is going bad and showing errors as if it was the graphics card going bad. Another thing it could be is your windows install has gone wrong and started to cause problems, which will mean a full reinstall of windows to rule that out.

We need more information really, also "dxgkrnl.sys" is the Microsoft DirectX system driver file. So I would try reinstalling DirectX.

You can download and install the right version from here.

ntoskrnl.exe is a windows system file and sounds like your windows install has gone bad or your hard drive maybe showing faults (so run a hard drive check on the windows drive), that error can also indicate memory is going bad on your motherboard. You can try fix that file from here.

ive done no overclocking, and my system has been working fine for a year, so would i really need to reinstall windows? any other tests i can run?

okay, i will get on reinstalling both directX and running a repair of windows. two questions, you mentioned to test the hard drive, how would i do that? and do you know IF it turns out to be graphics related, who would offer the RMA service?

okay im gonna go and run these tests. Is it likely to be ram, because thats the most likely to me as when i last had an issue with a faulty PSU i ran memtest and the test failed if i remember correctly.
