I think my 8800gt may have given up the ghost. After a couple of minutes playing starcraft the screen goes green and purple. I'm guessing this is overheating, I've dusted it but no better.

I'm a mid level gamer, my 8800 was £150 and lasted 3 years, what would the equivalent be now? Although it's only going with a 4 year old 6300 dual core but I hope to upgrade in the next 6 months or so.

If you could stretch to the 200 quid mark, then id suggest the following.

GTX480 - Great performance, but requires a lot of power and is really loud at times, but if you bought an aftermarket cooler, you could at least get rid of the excess heat.

GTX 560 Ti - Lower segment of High end cards, GTX560 is only a little weaker than a GTX480 but runs MUCH more quiet and produces a lot less heat.

HD 6950 - About GTX560 range, but runs a bit faster. Its a pretty big card, 10.5 inches, but its a great bang for buck as at stock it runs great, competing with both GTX560 and GTX480. Also you could flash the card to 6970 granting you extra performance, making this card a no brainer.

If you cannot stretch to 200 marker, I would suggest either a HD6870 or a GTX460, respectively :)

I notice on the back of the graphics card there are two 6 pin connectors for power, my current card have one. Will my Corsair HX 520 support it?
