Graphics card choice

Yes.

I upgraded from the same card as you to the one in my signature, and the performance boost is very evident! My card isn't that much faster than the one you're considering. :)

270x isn't really better than the 270. It's the same card just underclocked and in some cases with one less 6 pin power connector.

A 270 can easily clock to 270x levels and beyond.

the 2 x 4gb 270x cost more than one 290 (on here) and wouldn't be much faster, so wouldn't really be worth it.

edit: and I don't think one 270x would have the grunt to be able to make use of more than 2gb with decent frame rates.

I honestly think coming from a GTX570, the OP should look at the 7950/280 at least as a worthwhile upgrade.

The performance of going from GTX570 to a 270(x) doesn't seem to worth the cost or the hassle.

post started 13th May and you still didnt get a new card on 17th july :p
that's some hardcore research :p
as i said above:
270s :
-you wouldn't be looking at any jump in perf worth mentioning
-having 4Go 270 isnt worth it, doesnt have the juice to push for that much memory
- 270 4 Go wouldnt be easy to find later on if you think crossfire, maybe if you take the 2 of them at the same time, but then going for 290s is better.

280:
-best value for the money around
-nice boost from 570
-new rebranded architecture from AMD called tonga coming out in next couple months to replace 280s, adding to it freesync and true audio compatibility.
you'v waited since may, if i were you i would put my money on the side, and add to it something next month or 2, then get the new tonga Gpu if they are good, or just get a 290, because i feel like this is quiet the investement for you, and you wont be able to upgrade any time soon after it, so why wast you money now when you are so close to new releases, and since you have perfectly working 570, that isn't that bad.
beside it's not like there is anything worth playing right now, most games are coming in october/november anyway.

Like others have said, an R9 280X would be a more worthy upgrade from a GTX 570. If you can't find any decent deals right now, it's worth saving a bit longer because honestly moving to a 270 wouldn't be much of an upgrade in raw performance. The 280X however would be a nice upgrade, a big improvement.

Mate if you can get a R9 280X for only a £120, then buy it, that's a cracking price and a great upgrade from your current 570. You'll certainly noticed a significant difference in performance that's for sure :D

And I. Possibly thinking of doing crossfire but I don't know of my psu is good enough.
Btw I'm not using my gtx570 atm I have moved to a Ati hd 6950 but with shaders unlocked so it's a 6970, but the 6950 is only a temp card until I get the card want.
