Graphics card + cs: s

But will AM2 be the future or will it just fade away cos im thinking if im here next year and ive got 939 and 939 is like 754 now im stuffed and have to upgrade everything again. Or will it just be a phase??

A powerful 939 will likely last a couple of years for anything you need it to do.

I'm no expert, but i think AM2 is going to go down the road of multi-core (i.e. more than 2 cores), presumably that wont happen with 939.

AM2 certainly wont fade away, as it is the future for AMD (until the next chip).

i believe that 939 is the way to go and in css a cpu in actually more important than a gfx card, the source engine needs cpus! so, spend about 120 quid on a x1800gto which will do the job fine and get a 3500 or someting.imo.

not much chance of that happening in the near future mate im afraid, firstly becasue im a noob :D secondly because my pc's now next to useless


tbh am2 is hardly anymore expensive guys - dont know were your getting its really pricey from :confused: - buggy motherboards could be a problem, but, i reckon they may get them better this time round, afterall, when they went from 754 to 939, the nf3 boards wernt that bad?
 
My AGP 6600GT 128mb did CSS at full details at 1280 x 1024, little lag on that new level with all the fancy lighting, but apart from that it worked flawlessly, that was on my old system, Abit AN7, 6600gt, 1gb and Sata Hitachi. I'm sure the new system will do it even better but i personally find CSS one of the most boring games i've ever played, so refuse to waste my HDD space with it.
 
Running an uber clocked X800XT-PE with a zalman VF900 here.

1024x768 Max settings, 6x AA 16x AF + HDR and FPS ranges from around 70 - 150 :D

there fine for games, you may aswell buy the cheaper models and overclock however, if your paying 80 quid get a venice

Rollie eyes is a bit harsh *sniffs* ;)

Semprons are crippled cache-wise in comparison to A64, and will perform considerably worse. Give em one of the newer games and they will struggle to perform.
