Evening dudes....I'm on the verge of ordering a new Gaming Rig...have just about sorted everything I think I need...my limit is £1500, due to getting interest free computer loans from work (over two years...not too shabby huh...)...this is what I have so far....

CP-128-IN Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-128-IN) £194.99
MB-152-AS Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-152-AS) £129.99
MY-058-GL GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) (MY-058-GL) £169.99
HD-078-SE Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-078-SE) 2 @ £62.95 = £125.90
HS-017-AR Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) (HS-017-AR) £11.99
SC-042-CL Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music + HS600 £29.99 Gaming Headset Bundle - Retail (SC-042-CL) £66.95
CD-041-PO Pioneer DVR-111BK 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter - (Black) OEM (CD-041-PO) 2 @ £20.95 = £41.90
CA-006-SS Seasonic M12 Modular 600W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply (CA-006-SS) £99.99

Subtotal £841.70
.....VAT £147.30
....Total £989.00

...now my dilemma is...do I go ATI, maybe start with a X1950 XT-X 512Mb Master card (with the option to drop another in at a later date....), or do I go single GeForce 7950 GX2 1024Mb...???
...whats the verdict folks...I want a decent Gaming machine that will take me through next year...do not tend to think DX10/Vista will be too much of a "must have" till near tail end of 2007...so this card will have to tide me over probably till early 2008...any suggestions/help will be much appreciated...I need to seriously think about ordering at the front of next week...
...to house all this lot I was thinking Akasa Eclipse 62...??...sound like a good idea..??
...Cheers folks... :D

...anyone..?? Lots of "Views"...no replies....I've always had nVidia up to now, but I'm not the kind of person who would stick with a brand...just because...so I'm hoping people on here would be able to give me their much wider experience of all things Graphic Card...c'mon...help an old man out here.... ;) :D

...am thinking of going for a 19" or 22" TFT screen...the Hanns-G 19" that OcUK do looks a good screen for the price...so it will be at least 1440x900...hopefully
...saying that the Belinea 102035W is a nice looking monitor too...and that goes to 1680x1050...probably will not be going any higher than that due to monitor budget allowances... ;) :D
...cost of monitor not included in the build mind...I've around £500 for graphics card and case...

Personally, drop the 6600 to a 6400 as they overclock better and the performance is almost identical (3-5% due to cache but 6400 clocks better so wipes that out) Then stick a Tuniq Tower or Ninja instead of the Freezer in.

I run a 19" Widescreen 1440 x900 monitor with a 7950 GX2 and its great does all pretty stuff etc I dropped down from Crossfire as it was overkill at these resolutions. I was getting 200-300 FPS in rFactor and GTR 2 with everything max'd. I now get between 180-250 with same settings.

The Akasa 62 is a brilliant case BTW

I would get a GX2 or an x1900 xt and maybe xfire in the future.

Will be more than enough to carry you over to DX 10.

Then thats leaves you enough to get an AKASA 62 case. :)

Don't drop the 6600 to the 6400.

The reason being that the 6600 pairs well with the 975 chipset mobo.
The 6300 and 6400 should be paired with the 965 chipset.

Agree about the case ans the GX2 though

...modest too... ;) :D
...thanks folks...like I've said before, right from being an apprentice we had it drummed into us..."If you do not know...bloody well ask someone who does..." and its worked for me since...never been to proud to ask if I'm unsure...far better to check with those who know than look a right pillock at a later date... :D
...just have to wait to see if OcUk are getting anymore Eclipse 62's in...looks like they are fresh out now I've finally made me decision...
...with the GX2...are they all pretty much of a much'ness...the BFG looks nice...and the EVGA looks identical to it, yet comes in at £30 more...

Indeed,

The EVGA offer a steup program so you can upgrade to another faster card and just pay the difference. ;)

I have the EVGA and I'm pleased with it.
Fantastic support too.

...so you would say the EVGA is the better card then...?? Reckon I'm just about ready to order then... ...many thanks again for the help people, especially Easyrider... :D ...like I said just got to wait and see if the Eclipse 62 is back in stock soon...as because its "OUT" I cannot add it to my order... :( ...unless anyone can suggest another case thats just as good...?? Must admit though did like the look of the Akasa....

...also just as a by-the-by Easyrider...is the EVGA Superclocked variety GX2 worth the extra £30 over the Vanilla one..?? Will it be just as stable...or is the Vanilla one easily tweaked up to those figures anyway...??
Cheers....

Stick with the AKASA 62 if you like it.

I'm running my standard EVGA past superclocked speeds without issue at all.
Save yourself 30 quid!

:D

...now come on OcUK...get some 62's in sharp'ish cheers... ;)

Oh forgot to mention....

Order two AKASA amber 120MM fans for the 62 nice and quiet and offer exceptional cooling. ;)

Surely if you are gaming at 1440x900 a GX2 is overkill, I realise it is an interest free loan but it is still a loan and has to be paid back, personally I'd go for the 256Mb X1900XT, at the resolution you are considering playing at which is by equiv' less than 1280x1024, 256Mb is all you need.

A GX2 for gaming below 1280x1024 just seems wack to me... 1600x1200 min with everything turned up yes...

good luck whatever you choose,
J.

Well, no he's not, that is a 20.1" monitor he is considering, I still think it is OTT but I'm just not in the same league as you guys obviously! You lot must be loaded...

Bridder...I have not actually decided on the monitor yet...but it will be in the 19-22" range and will have to cope with resolutions up to this size...I'd rather be a bit on the safe side with my card if possible...its an old engineering thing...always over-engineer if you can...and I'm not in "any" league, just making the most of the chance to get a new rig interest free...I can go up to £1500 and the GX2 can be fitted in within that budget...and the difference between those two cards works out at an extra £4 a month to pay back...I'm not loaded at all mate...mortgage, 3 kids, etc...which is another reason why I want to buy something that will last a good couple of years...because I'm not loaded, far from it...I came on here for some good old fashioned advice...which is what I got... :D
